The World May Be Ending On August 19, 2023. Only you can stop it!

 

One of the stickiest questions that can plague a dedicated server in 7 Days To Die is when it's time to reset the world, forcing everyone to restart.

The most obvious time is when a new major patch hits, like the advancement from Alpha 20 to Alpha 21. The map isn't compatible from one to the other, so it's a no-briainer.

What about between major patches? After a while the world will accumulate abandoned player camps, new POI's may drop, and some players may start yearning to start over so they can use what they've learned during their last play though. This gives everyone who has met on the server the opportunity to start over at the same time, for the map to change, and for a few new rules to be made that reflect the desires of the community.

It has been a pleasure meeting and playing with you on this new version of the server. Alpha 21 brought some new features in that I was eager to try, such as the chunk reloading system. It turns out that the system isn't ready for dedicated servers because it doesn't always respect claimed regions, whether you're using a bedroll or a claim block. A few people have had half or more of their bases disappear because of this, and I'm sorry about that. The feature is being turned off, and will not be active in the next world, so claim blocks and bedrolls should work properly.

Before the world is reset and replaced, an archive with the final snapshot of it will be posted of it here so you can install it on your computer so you can revisit your own and other people's builds privately. You can also start a server of your own with it if you like. 

So, the plan is to restart with a new world sometime after August, Friday the 18th. Please leave a comment if you disagree with that or have any requests. The new map will be city rich. The next world will last at least one month, and could persist longer if people request that it. 

Edit: The impending destruction of the world has been vetoed by multiple players outside of this webpage. That means that there won't be a fresh new world and restart for at least a couple of weeks. Enjoy the world as it is!
